Lincoln City First team to be brought

Postby GingerbreadSi on Mon Jul 26, 2010 1:21 pm

Just had a text from Pat saying that the Pro side are coming tomorrow night and not the youth team as first thought

Also don't forget admission is reduced to £5 and £3

Great...........another defeat

So they will be fielding a youth team at home against Norwich on Wednesday (I doubt very much)

I would have thought they'd have a few trialists as well, who would be better served mixed in with their first team squad, rather than the youth team.

Also, if Chris Sutton is in attendance of a consequence of them bringing a first team, it gives Jimmy and Wayne the chance to possibly get some reserves / youth teamers in on loan. Every cloud and all that!

More likely is that he will see a decent youngster in our side and ask him to join the Imps..........

Most noteable for me Jamie Clapham, son of former Gingerbread Graham, who made 119 appearances for the club during the 1970's

I saw Graham play for us. Small stylish midfield player.

Lots of positive aspects of last night's performance in which we played some good football in a competetive match -just lacking goals at the moment, on to Yarmouth 8)

Although a better second half performance, both goals came from the left side (from Grantham's perspective) which is a worry and brings us back to a conversation on Saturday that Atkin might be a decent left winger, but he isn't a defender.

Lack of goals is my REAL worry, one bundled goal in four outings must be a bit of a concern for Jimmy and Wayne as well ??

Yarmouth are no mugs and we need to start playing better else we could start the season already felling like we don't stand a chance.

Whilst sometimes it can be too easy to knock the website, at least they have a report of the game, unlike the Lincoln one.

Also, no Lincs Echo coverage!

You wont be suprised to hear that I dont share your perspective on last night Sut- you are far too pessermistic in your conclusion.Agree that we need to start scoring as that is confidence booster. Also dont agree with you on Elliott Atkin. He did get exposed last night in the first half- by a very quick player but we were inviting that pass through our defence by playing a high line. I am not sure of wayne and Jimmys long term plans for him in terms of what position he plays but I think he has the makings of a wing back and needs more games and more familiarity with those around him, this will come with matches and the return of Scrabble.

Not only is it needed for a confidence boost, it is also REQUIRED to win a game of football in case you have forgotten, something we have failed to do against 4 sides now. I know winning on the 21st is all that matters, but winning and losing can be a habit, losing is a bad one to get into.

In terms of Atkin, my observations aren't based solely on one game, I've seen all four, as well as when he played against us last season and I felt he plays better in midfield than he does as a wing-back, that isn't to say he is a bad player, but for us to gamble on him out of position would be a risk, given the fact Pottsy will no doubt have a say about the position when he returns from holiday.

I can see your point about scoring but it will come- hopefully on Saturday! I recall that playing Pottsie as a wing back was a bit of a gamble last season as he had joined us as a central striker.
